Theft Charges in Hackensack NJ

As stated earlier, the severity of the crimes listed above are determined typically by the value of the items taken and whether or not force was used. Here is a quick breakdown of the degrees for most theft offenses:

  1. Disorderly Persons Offense = The value of the property taken was less than $200
  2. Fourth Degree Felony = The value of the property taken was more than $200 but less than $500
  3. Third Degree Felony = The value of the property taken was more than $500 but less than $75,000
  4. Second Degree Felony = The value of the property taken was more than $75,000 

The breakdown in the degrees above does not include offenses like burglary, robbery or carjacking. As the dollar amount of those offenses is irrelevant.
