Wyckoff NJ Resident Charged with Unlawful Possession of Handgun & Terroristic Threats
A Wyckoff New Jersey resident was arrested by the Mahwah Police Department yesterday for allegedly threatening to kill his uncle and his uncles family. During the incident, the defendant apparently lifted up his shirt to expose a Glock handgun which was located in his waistband. It took a joint effort from the Mahwah police department and the Wyckoff police department to arrest the defendant. The initial reports indicate that the defendant was apprehended at his home in Wyckoff New Jersey although the police have announced that the actual incident occurred in North Haledon. It appears from the reports that the uncle also suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation. It is still unknown at this point what spawned the defendant to quickly escalate a verbal argument to brandishing a handgun and threatening to kill an entire family. Although the defendant is alleging that he was first struck by his uncle and was only defending himself.
During the arrest process, the Wyckoff police officers seized the 40 mm handgun used during the altercation as well as a shotgun, rifle, small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The defendant is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $50,000 bail. They have formally charged the defendant with terroristic threats, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of marijuana and the unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
