Two Bergen County men were originally charged with first degree money laundering and first degree conspiracy charges. The duo are father and son. The father is from Park Ridge, while the son lives in Saddle River. The father is currently is serving a twenty-seven month federal prison sentence. He is due to be released in ten months. His son is serving in a state prison out of Burlington County. He is up for parole this November. Now, both are looking at even more charges. It is alleged that the two, along with another relative, scammed two investors and two mortgage lenders for more than $500,000. They allegedly did this by making fake real estate deals.
Hackensack Conspiracy Lawyers
Conspiracy and money laundering charges are very serious charges. Especially, like the charges above, when they are first degree indictables (felonies). If a defendant pleads guilty to a first degree conspiracy or money laundering charge, then they can face up to twenty (20) years in a New Jersey state prison. In addition to this, a first degree charge carries a presumption of incarceration. This means if they plead guilty or are found guilty after trial, then it is presumed that the judge will sentence them to prison time. Lastly, a first degree charge carries up to a $200,000.00 fine. If you or a loved one is charged with this, then the prosecutor may also charge you with theft, or a theft by deception.
