A fifty-five year old female from Kearny was arrested this week and charged with among other things theft by deception. The Defendant is alleged to have stolen more than $75,000 from her previous employer who is located in Hackensack, New Jersey. The Defendant apparently would create fake checks from the company and then cash them at local banks throughout the county. Once the checks were cashed, the Defendant would then access the companies Quickbook Account and attempt to cover her tracks by deleting the inquiries. It is unclear at this point in time how long the embezzlement went on for but it is alleged that more than $75,000 was stolen.

The Defendant was arrested and booked but later released upon her own recognizance. She should be due to appear at her Central Judicial Processing Hearing at some point in the near future. Since the Defendant stole more than $75,000 the charge is automatically considered a second degree felony. Therefore, the Defendant if facing up to ten (10) years in a State Prison plus a fine up to $150,000 if convicted.
