A Teaneck man was recently served with a new sexual assault charge. The man was being held on violating terms of his release. The Teaneck man was charged last year with aggravated sexual assault. The new and old sexual assault charges all stem from allegations that he sexually assaulted a child. The Teaneck man is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail due to violating his release provisions as well as presumably now for picking up a new Sexual Assault Charge. It is alleged that both sexual assaults occurred on children under the age of thirteen. In addition to being charged with sexual assault, the defendant is also being charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Hackensack Sexual Assault Charge Lawyer

A sexual assault charge, commonly known as rape, is a very serious charge here in New Jersey. The law is codified under N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2. This charge is commonly prosecuted as a second degree crime. This means that if a defendant is found guilty of this crime, he/she can spend up to ten (10) years in a New Jersey state prison. In addition to this, a fine of up to $150,000.00 can be imposed, parole supervision for life, as well as be placed on Megan’s Law. Moreover, if convicted, a defendant is presumed to be sentence to prison time since it is a second degree felony. Lastly, if convicted, the defendant will have to serve at least 85% of their sentence before they are eligible for parole.
