Northvale NJ Resident Charged with Disarming and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer
What started out as a simple trespassing violation, which may have turned into a simple warning, quickly escalated once the Defendant took off on foot. According to the information released thus far, a Northvale police officer noticed the Defendant, a twenty-two (22) year old Northvale native trespassing on private property near Paulding Avenue. The Defendant was heading towards the CSX Rail line when he was first spotted, however, the officer lost sight of the Defendant and when he reappeared, he was allegedly crouched down along a fence line. Due to the suspicious nature of the Defendant’s activity the Nortvale officer attempted to speak to the Defendant. This when it is alleged that the Defendant took off on foot. Backup was called and officers from Closter, Norwood and Old Tappan assisted in the chase.
When the officers on scene were finally able to corral the Defendant he continued to resist arrest and in fact it is alleged to have attempted to disarm one of the police officers on scene. The Defendant was ultimately placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The 80 grams of marijuana found in the Defendant’s backpack could have been the reason why the Defendant fled once he was observed by officers trespassing. He was brought to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $75,000.
