Defendant Charged with Possessing Heroin in Lodi, NJ
According the reports released out of Lodi, New Jersey, a quality of life street initiative led to the arrest of a thirty-six year old Lodi resident. It appears that once the Defendant realized that the police were watching him he attempted to discard 119 bags of heroin by throwing it over a nearby fence. The drugs were collected and seized by the officers and the Defendant was arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of heroin, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10. It is unknown at this time whether the female that the Defendant was observed walking with when he attempted to discard the heroin was arrested too. The Defendant is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $10,000 bail. Due to the quantity of drugs possessed, the Defendant will most likely be charged with possession of heroin in the third degree. If convicted, the Defendant could be sentenced up to five (5) years in a State prison.
