Defendant charged with Aggravated Assault on an Hackensack Police Officer
In Hackensack, New Jersey, a local police officer was attacked by three men who used the police officer’s own nightstick to beat him. The officer Matthew Jacobsen, and his partner Sgt. Ben Marino, were on patrol in an area around Anderson Street. The area is known to have a high crime rate. It was then that they saw three men who each have well-known criminal histories.
The Defendants are identified as a 24 year old, 6’5” tall, male who weighs in excess of 350 pounds, another male who stands approximately 6’2” tall and weighs 380 pounds, and a third male who reportedly is 6’2” tall and weighs 280 pounds. When the police officers approached these three men, one of the Defendant’s reportedly attacked officer Marino and wrestled him to the ground. Then the said Defendant removed the police officer’s nightstick from his holster and began beating the officer with his own nightstick. On seeing this, officer Jacobsen attempted to intervene. Officer Jacobsen received several blows to the face during the entire incident.
Additional law enforcement agents were called to the scene. It took multiple law enforcement officials to get the Defendant under control and place him inside of a police cruiser. More police officers were injured by the Defendant during this phase of the arrest.
Upon returning to the police station, the defendant continued to act in a disruptive manner. He bent over like a bull and started charging into the locked doors, shattering one of the doors, according to police. He is currently facing charges of aggravated assault on an officer, in addition to other charges, like resisting arrest. He is currently in Bergen County jail, and his bail has been set at $50,000.
