DWI Charges Issued in Westwood Following Motor Vehicle Accident
When the Westwood Police Department responded to a 911 call about an accident they found a thirty-six (36) year old female “confused, disoriented and bleeding from the face and hands”. It appears that the Defendant, a thirty-six year old female from Paramus was not only driving while intoxicated but texting while driving as well. The Defendant, who apparently made no effort to brake, smashed directly into a utility pole, splitting it in half and in doing so rolling her vehicle on its side. The Defendant didn’t appear to have any significant injuries but she was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. While there, blood was taken to determine what the Defendant’s blood alcohol level was.
The Defendant was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and using a cellphone while driving. She was released on a summons to appear in the Westwood Municipal Court. If a first offense DUI and if convicted, the Defendant is facing up too a year loss of license, fines exceeding $800 and 12 hours in the intoxicated drivers resource center.
