A New York man has been arrested and charged with series offenses following a bizarre incident in Bergen County this week. The Defendant, an eighteen (18) year old male from New York, is alleged to have been hired as a hitman. According to the reports that have been released at this point in time, the Defendant used the”dark web”, which is a encrypted online network to solicit business as a hitman. However, unbeknown to the Defendant, he was actually communicating with agents from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Homeland Security. According to the reports released at this point in time, the Defendant agreed to commit a murder in exchange for some cash and a firearm that was supposed to be equipped with a silencer.
On October 21, 2016 the Defendant allegedly drover from New York to Mahwah, New Jersey to meet with and discuss the murder for hire with the “client”. However, he was actually set to meet with undercover agents. As a result of their investigation and their discussions with the Defendant, he was arrested and formally charged with a slue of felonies. Including conspiracy to commit murder for hire, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a silencer. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at 1 million dollars with no 10% option. The Defendant remains in custody.
