Accident on GWB Leads to Driver Arrested & Charged with DUI

Aftermath of morning GWB crashWhen the Port Authority Police Department responded to a 911 call they found a thirty-five year old male unresponsive but breathing laying in the east bound lane of the George Washington Bridge. Based on the scene, it was clear that the Defendant was just involved in a head on car collision. Located nearby the Defendant was his abandoned vehicle. The vehicle, a Toyota, had head heavy front end damage and the strong odor of marijuana emanating from inside his vehicle. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a small amount of marijuana. Apparently, upon being questioned, the Defendant also admitted to smoking marijuana prior to operating the vehicle. As a result, the Defendant was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and driving under the influence. In addition, since the Defendant was involved in a head on collision, he will most likely also be charged with assault by auto as well. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Englewood Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. After being charged, the Defendant was not taken to the Bergen County Jail but released on a summons to appear in the Fort Lee Municipal Court.
