Aggravated Assault Charges issued in Hackensack NJ

A defendant who was currently out on bail in Bergen County, New Jersey is alleged to have viciously assaulted a women during a heated argument. The defendant who was arrested during one of Bergen County’s heroin drug sweeps over the last few months, is alleged to have struck a woman in the head with a hammer several times, causing serious bodily injury. It is unknown at this time what provoked the defendant but the victim, who is 49 years old, has suffered severe bruising on her face and is having trouble seeing out of her right eye. According to the reports, the defendant attempted to flee the area after allegedly committing the assault but was later apprehended nearby.

The defendant bailed out of the Bergen County Jail in May of this year after he was arrested during one of Bergen County’s major heroin busts. However, as a result of this last incident, the defendant is back in the Bergen County Jail on a $75,000 bail. He has formally been charged aggravated assault in the second degree, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Since the defendant was out on bail on the original drug arrest back in May, the defendant sentence for the current offense could be required to run consecutively rather then concurrently. If convicted of the second degree aggravated assault charge alone, the defendant is facing up to 10 years in a New Jersey State Prison and his sentence would fall under the No Early Release Act, which requires defendant’s to do 85% of their sentence before they can become eligible for parole.
