Mahwah New Jersey teen almost the victim of Sexual Assault

A 28-year-old Fort Wayne resident is alleged to have driven 10 hours from Indiana to Mahwah New Jersey for the purpose of engaging in sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. According to police chief Jim Batelli Elkins met this girl, on an online a chat site.

Police say that the relationship between the Defendant and the 15-year-old girl started last year. The two began chatting with each other on a site called Omegle. This is an online chat website that allows individuals to chat with fleet and total strangers for free. To maintain anonymity, the handles You and Stranger are all that are used in the conversation. After talking on the site for a while, the two exchanged personal information such as phone numbers and addresses. They continued their conversation over the telephone according to police.

Then in December the Defendant is alleged to have arranged a meeting between him and the 15-year-old girl. He then made the ten hour drive from Indiana to Mahwah, New Jersey. It is there that he allegedly sexually assaulted this girl, not only in her home but also in a local hotel in motel New Jersey. In addition, it appears that the Defendant has at least one prior sexual misconduct conviction with a minor. The Defendant has been placed in Indiana State Prison. The charges against him include two counts of sexual assault, and also two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. If convicted of these charges alone, the defendant will be facing up to twenty years in a New Jersey State Prison and required to register under Megan’s Law for the remainder of his life.
