Fort Lee NJ Traffic Stop Nets Almost 1lb of Cocaine and a Handgun
According to the reports released by the Fort Lee police department, they have arrested and seized almost one (1) pound of cocaine and a .38 caliber handgun following a routine traffic stop for violating New Jersey’s window tinting statute. When the Defendant was approached by the Fort Lee police officer, he was unable to provide him with a valid driver’s license and when confronted about where he was heading from, the officer alleges that the Defendant’s store did not make any sense. Based on the combination of the Defendant’s story and his lack of documentation, the officer sought consent to search the his vehicle.
During the search, the officer’s discovered a hidden compartment which contained approximately six ounces of cocaine and a .38 caliber handgun. As a result, the Defendant was arrested and back at the police station, the officer’s were able to obtained permission to search the Defendant’s residence in Passaic, New Jersey. During that search, the officer’s were able to uncover more cocaine and a press used to shape brick’s of cocaine.
The Defendant has formally been charged with first degree possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun within the commission of a drug offense. He is currently being held in the Bergen County jail on $250,000 bail.
