A volunteer firefighter is facing child porn charges. The child porn charges were brought by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Angelo Decarlo, who is from New Milford, New Jersey, allegedly had downloaded, possessed, and shared child porn. The police allegedly found these images on his computer. Law enforcement also allege that Decarlo was using online chat forums to have sexual conversations with girls that were underage. Decarlo faces possession and distribution of child pornography, endangering the welfare of a child, and promoting obscenity to a minor.

Decarlo’s most serious charge is N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4B(5)AI, Endangering-Distribution of Child Porn/Abuse, which is a second degree crime. A second degree crime carries up to ten years in a New Jersey state prison if convicted or if the defendant pleads to the charge. In addition , there is up to a six figure fine that is associated with a second degree crime. Lastly, a second degree crime has a presumption of incarceration. This means that if Decarlo pleads out to the charge as it is, or is convicted after trial, then it is presumed that the judge will sentence him to New Jersey state prison. Decarlo also faces three other third degree crimes. A third degree crime in New Jersey carries up to five years in state prison, with up to a $15,000 fine.
