The Bergen County Prosecutor’s office has announced that they have arrested and charged a thirty-six (36) year old male from Orlando, with amongst other things, sexual assault. The investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office commenced when detectives from the Pennsylvania State Police alerted them to a possible sexual assault that occurred in there county. The victim in the case, a eleven (11) year old female, alleged that the Defendant committed several sexual acts upon her while she was staying in Ridgewood, New Jersey. It is unclear at this point in time what if any relationship the Defendant had with the victim.
As a result of the information received, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office brought in the victim for questioning. Based on their conversation an arrest warrant was issued for the Defendant. He has since been picked up in his home town, Orlando Florida. He is currently being held in Florida pending extradition to New Jersey. Once extradition is completed the Defendant will be taken and logged in the Bergen County Jail. The Defendant has formally been charged with sexual assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree. Since both offenses are second degree felonies, the Defendant if convicted would be facing up too ten (10) years in a State Prison on each charge. In addition, both offenses would require the Defendant to be registered under Megan’s Law for life.
