A Fairview Borough resident has been arrested and charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child earlier this week. The Defendant is a forty-five (45) year old male who runs a boxing gym in West New York, New Jersey. The facts are minimal at this point but it is alleged that the Defendant inappropriately touched a juvenile girl. Apparently the juvenile notified the Fairview Police Department about the encounter and they in turn notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victim’s Unit. They took over the investigation and brought the Defendant down to their satellite office in Paramus for further questioning. It is after the questioning that the Defendant was arrested and formally charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree and aggravated criminal sexual contact also in the third degree. The Defendant was booked in the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $50,000 full.
The third degree felony offenses that the Defendant is facing are punishable by up to five (5) years in a New Jersey State Prison. In addition, the endangering the welfare of a child charge falls under Megan’s Law as well. Therefore, if convicted, the Defendant would be required to register under Megan’s Law for at least the next fifteen (15) years.
