Paul T. Gudanowski

A fifty year old male lead officers from New Jersey and New York on a wild chase early Monday morning. According to the reports, the Defendant initially stole a flatbed truck that was being stored in Hackensack, New Jersey early Monday morning. Then to make matters worse, when officers from East Rutherford spotted the Defendant operating the flatbed and attempted to pull him over, he fled. At some point in time during the chase an East Rutherford patrol car became attached to back of the flatbed. The patrol car was actually dragged for a substantial distance as the Defendant continued to flee. The chase continued into New York and did not end until officers were able to surround the truck.

Once the officers were able to apprehend the Defendant they became aware that he was intoxicated as well. The Defendant was formally charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer in the third degree, one count of eluding in the second degree, one count of theft in the third degree and several motor vehicle violations as well including driving while intoxicated. The Defendant was also charged in New York with criminal mischief, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. The Defendant was arrested and taken to a local jail in New York. He is currently pending extradition to New Jersey, so once that process is complete he will be transferred to answer the charges. The Defendant’s most serious charge is the eluding offense. A second degree eluding in New Jersey is punishable by up to ten years in a New Jersey State Prison and a fine up to $150,000. In addition, when the eluding encompasses a motor vehicle accident, prosecutors tend to take a more harsher approach when it comes time to plea negotiations.
