Another Suspect in the Bergenfield NJ Shooting is taken into Custody

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has announced the capture of a fourth suspect in the Bergenfield New Jersey shooting. A reputed Crips gang member from East Orange New Jersey was taken into custody yesterday for his role, in what authorities are calling a drug deal gone wrong robbery. Shots were fired during the robbery and two Bergenfield men were left critically wounded. The reports indicate that the defendant was arrested, without incident, by the Newark SWAT team. Apparently, acting under a search warrant issued out of Bergen County, the SWAT team raided the defendants apartment and in the process discovered that the apartment was being used as a drug facility. During the raid, the officers uncovered approximately 850 decks of heroin, several ounces of crack cocaine and more than one pound of marijuana.

The defendant is the fourth person to be charged in the Bergenfield shooting of Gilbert Mercado and John Newcomb. The authorities have also arrested an Englewood, an East Orange, and an Succasunna New Jersey residents. All four defendants have been charged with robbery and attempted murder, however, it appears that authorities are still trying to figure out who pulled the trigger. In addition to the two counts of attempted murder, armed robbery, burglary and unlawful possession of weapons offenses stemming from the Bergenfield shootings, the defendant will likely be charged in Essex County with maintaining a drug manufacturing facility, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. The defendant is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $1 million dollar cash only bail.
