Heroin & Cocaine Distribution Charges for Newark Resident

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s office has announced earlier this week that they have arrested a Newark native on heroin and crack cocaine charges. From the information released, it appears that the Defendant was arrested and charged as a result of a sting operation. The initial reports indicate that the Defendant showed up in East Rutherford, New Jersey with $5,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine for what was supposed to be a drug transaction. However, before the Defendant could make the transaction, he was surrounded and arrested by undercover detectives. The Defendant had in total 17 bricks of heroin, which is more than 850 glassine envelopes and two dozen bags of crack cocaine. The Defendant has formally been charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. He is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $50,000 bail. Provided the heroin weighs in at less than a 1/2 ounce, the Defendant will most likely be charged with two third degree felonies. If convicted, the Defendant could be sent to a New Jersey State Prison for up to 10 years.
