Fort Lee Police Charge Teaneck Man with String of Burglaries

It seems like an unanimous tip was the big break detectives need to solve a string of unsolved burglaries in Fort Lee, New Jersey. According to the information released thus far, the Fort Lee Police Department received a tip that an individual in an undisclosed parking lot was carrying a handgun in his waste band. When the police arrived and attempted to investigate the situation, they allege that the Defendant took a fighting stance and refused to take his hands out of his pockets. It is unclear what happened next but a frisk of the Defendant revealed an eighteen inch long machete, but not handgun. The Defendant, a twenty-four (24) year old Teaneck resident, was arrested and charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. In addition, the Defendant has also been charged with five counts of burglary as well. It is unclear at this point time whether or not the machete tied the Defendant to the burglaries. The police are stating that the incident is still under investigation.

The Defendant has been taken to the Bergen County Jail. He remains in custody on a $50,000 bail, which was set by Judge DeSheplo, who is the presiding judge for the Fort Lee Municipal Court. The Defendant is facing seven (7) third degree felonies. If convicted, the Defendant is facing up to five (5) years in state prison on each charge.
