Theft and Burglary charges issued for Bergenfield resident in Hackensack NJ
Following a short investigation the Bergenfield Police Department has arrested a local resident and charged him wiht burglary and theft of movable property. The man is accused of breaking into a Bergenfield home and stealing various photo equipment. It is also alleged that the defendant then sold the stolen equipment to a local Bergen County business.
According to the Bergenfield Police Captain, Cathy Madalone, the homeowner returned home and discovered that over $3,500 worth of cameras were missing. After a thorough investigation, the Bergenfield police department was able to locate the missing cameras at Peters Camera and Frame Shop, which is also located in borough of Bergenfield. After discovering where the stolen cameras were sold too, it wasn’t long until the officers were able to located the individual who sold the cameras to the store.
Once the defendant was located, he was formally charged with burglary and theft. However, he was then released after posting a $15,000 bail. Burglary in New Jersey is typically a third degree felony, and if convicted the Defendant could be sentenced up to five years in State Prison. The theft charge which the Defendant is also charged with is a third degree felony as well.
