Aggravated Assault & Weapons Charges issued in Bergen County NJ
It appears that what started out as a simple dispute between two brothers, over money that had gone missing, quickly escalated in to a much more serious situation in Mahwah, New Jersey. The Mahwah police department and the Bergen County Prosecutor Office has reported that a argument over missing money turned violent, leading one brother to discharge a shotgun in the direction of the other. It appears that one of the brothers who was missing money went to the other brothers home to confront him, and when he got to the backdoor, the defendant fired of a round from a shotgun, blowing a hole through the door. Apparently after the blast, the victim, punched out a window on the door and busted his way into the home and tackled the defendant. The reports go on to state that when the police arrived the victim had the brother pinned down awaiting their arrival. The victim was then taken to the hospital as a result of the injuries he suffered from punching out the window and not from the shotgun blast. Conversely, the defendant was taken to the Bergen County Jail.
The defendant is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $50,000 bail. He has formally been charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, possession of a shotgun without first obtaining a firearms identification card, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. These are very serious charges in New Jersey and if convicted the defendant could be facing up to decades behind bars.
