Loansharking Operation uncovered in Hackensack NJ

A 45 year old Hackensack New Jersey resident, has been charged with overseeing a loanshark operation. According to reports, the defendants’ operation focused on individuals from the immigrant community. John L. Molinelli, who serves as the Bergen County prosecutor, stated that the defendant was being investigated after information had been received that his business was charging exorbitantly high amounts of interest on loans. Further investigation made it clear that the interest that the defendant was charging his clients was above the limit that is allowed by law. According to the Bergen County prosecutor, after further investigating the matter it became clear that a large percentage of the defendant’s clients were part of the immigrant community.

The defendant was arrested in Englewood New Jersey during his 9 AM commute to work. The defendant’s home was searched by police following his arrest. Various computer documents, financial documents, and more than $10,000 in cash was confiscated. The defendant is being charged with criminal usery which is a second-degree crime. The defendant posted $150,000 bond and was then released.

John L. Molinelli expressed his thanks to the District Attorney’s Office of Rockland County, and local police for their help in apprehending the defendant. The investigation into the extent of Amir Landsman’s criminal activities is ongoing.
