Another Major Cocaine Bust in Hackensack NJ

Another joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the Sheriffs Department and the Hackensack Police Department leads to two men from New York being arrested and charged with various drugs and weapons charges. It is unclear at this point in time what sparked the investigation but it ended Monday afternoon when authorities pulled over the Defendant’s vehicle in Hackensack New Jersey. A subsequent search of the front seat passenger took place and a loaded automatic handgun was discovered. Based on their findings at the scene and their investigation, the driver and the passenger were arrested. A search warrant for the Defendant’s vehicle was issued and a subsequent search uncovered four (4) kilograms of cocaine. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $200,000. Based on their findings the driver was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in the first degree and the passenger was charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in the first degree, unlawful possession of a weapon and most likely possession of a weapon while in the commission of a CDS offense.

Both Defendant’s were taken to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $150,000. The Defendant’s will most likely have to make an appearance via video conference at there Central Judicial Processing hearing next week. After that there case will be scheduled for an Early Disposition Conference and if the matter cannot be resolved there the matter will be sent to Grand Jury. Due to the seriousness of the charges, the case will most likely get sent to Grand Jury in hopes of the case being indicted. If the Defendant’s were to be convicted of the drug charges alone they could be facing up to twenty (20) years in a New Jersey State Prison and fined up too $200,000.
