Home invasion & theft reported in Paramus New Jersey

The Paramus police department are seeking help from the community to help find the burglars who ransacked a home on Harrison Street in the Borough. It has been reported that the burglars walked away with not only jewelry and cash but also a handgun as well.  The initial reports from Police Chief Kenneth Ehreneberg state that the suspects were able to gain entry into the home by kicking in the front door of the residence. Home invasions and thefts tend to increase during the holiday season as well as shoplifting too. Police throughout Bergen County are urging residents to be more cautious of their surroundings and take measure to try and prevent home invasions and thefts. 

A home invasion, also known as burglary, is a third degree felony in New Jersey and if convicted, a defendant could be sentenced up to five years in a state prison. In addition, if the suspect(s) are caught possessing the handgun, they could be charged with unlawful possession of a weapon (gun), which is a second degree felony in New Jersey. If convicted of this offense, a defendant could be sentenced up to ten (10) years in a New Jersey State Prison.
