Bergen County resident charged with Aggravated Manslaughter

A Bergen County grand jury has returned an indictment against a Rutherford New Jersey man for aggravated manslaughter. The charges stem from a motor vehicle accident where in which the defendant, whom is alleged to have been intoxicated at the time of the accident, struck a mother of four. The mother of four died two days later at the Hackensack University Medical Center. It is alleged that the defendant lost control of his vehicle several times; actually driving onto the sidewalk prior to striking the women. It is has also been reported that prior to the defendant striking the victim, who was standing on St. Mary’s High School grounds, he had struck and knocked down a tree, a street light and a wooden utility pole. The defendant’s blood alcohol level has yet to have been released.

As a result of the aforementioned incident, the defendant as been indicted on aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, driving while intoxicated and several other motor vehicle violations. (for more information on DWI, click here) The defendant currently remains free on a $75,000 bail, which he posted sometime after the incident. New Jersey as a whole has seen an increase in alcohol related motor vehicle accidents over the years. Unfortunately, a number of these accidents have resulted in the death of someone.  As a result, law enforcement throughout Bergen County has been taking a lot of proactive measures in attempt to decrease the number of incidents. One of the main measures the police use is road blocks.
