Cyrstal Meth & GHB found on Newark Resident in Bergen County NJ
A Newark resident was arrested in Fort Lee New Jersey and charged with distributing a controlled dangerous substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled dangerous substance (GHB), possession of hypodermic syringes and possession of drug paraphernalia. The offense of distributing methamphetamine will most likely be a third degree felony based on the amount (two small bags) found. A conviction for a third degree felony in New Jersey carries with it a potential of up to five years in a state prison. The unlawful possession of GHB is also a third degree felony and the syringe charge is a disorderly persons offense (misdemeanor), which is punishable by up to six months in the Bergen County Jail.
These charges all arise out of a routine motor vehicle stop that was conducted by the Fort Lee Police Department. It was alleged that the driver, a Newark resident, “swerved violently”, almost losing control of his Infinity. When the Fort Lee police officer approached the driver, he immediately became suspicious that the driver was operating under the influence (DUI). The driver was then pulled outside the vehicle for further questioning. Based on what the officers declared to be nervous behavior, they asked the operator for permission to search his car. It appears that the driver gave the officers consent to search his vehicle and the subsequent search revealed methamphetamine, syringes, drug paraphernalia and GHB.
