Another Defendant Charged with Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute Charges in Bergen County
A shoplifting gone wrong leads to a twenty-one (21) year old male being arrested and charged with among other things robbery and possession of heroin with the intent to distribute. According to the reports released thus far, the Defendant entered a convenience store located inside the Gulf Gas Station on Route 17 and attempted to conceal several items in his pockets. The Defendant then approached the cashier were he attempted to purchase a bottle of water. When confronted by the cashier about the additional items located inside his pocket, the Defendant allegedly pushed and punched him in an attempt to flee. His attempt was unsuccessful and the Defendant was quickly apprehended.
The Mahwah Police Department was called upon scene and the Defendant was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed a hypodermic syringe and 124 wax folds of heroin. The Defendant has formally been charged with robbery in the second degree, shoplifting, possession of heroin in the third degree, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute in the third degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. The Defendant has been taken to the Bergen County Jail where he remains being held on a $120,000 bail. If convicted of the most serious charge, the robbery, he faces up to ten (10) years in a New Jersey State Prison.
