Saddle Brook NJ Teenager is Jailed on Aggravated Assault Charges
It appears that a dispute over a girl leads to one teenager being taken to the Bergen County Jail on aggravated assault charges and the other taken to Hackensack Memorial Hospital. From the reports released thus far, it seems that the Defendant and the victim arraigned to meet in a church parking lot in Saddle Brook to settle their dispute. A surveillance video shows that once the victim exited his car he was immediately knocked to the ground by the Defendant. It then shows the Defendant standing over the victim, kicking him in the face. The victim is alleged to have suffered a broken eye socket.
The Defendant was transported to the Bergen County Jail and is currently being held on a $20,000 bail. Based on the injury suffered, the Defendant will most likely be charged with aggravated assault in the second degree. If convicted, the Defendant could be sentenced up to ten years in a State Prison. In addition, aggravated assault in the second degree also falls under the No Early Release Act, which in essence requires a Defendant to serve at least 85% of their sentence before they can become eligible for parole. To make matters worse, it appears that the Defendant was out on bail on a robbery charge.
