Hasbrouck Heights Women Charged with Eluding & DWI in Bergen County
The Port Authority Police have charged a twenty-nine year old Hasbrouck Heights resident with among other things, eluding and driving while intoxicated following what officers are calling a low-speed chase over the George Washington Bridge. It appears that the officer attempted to pull the Defendant over for an alleged traffic violation, however, the Defendant refused to follow his instructions and continued to drive. It wasn’t until the Defendant crashed her vehicle into a telephone pole in Leonia, New Jersey that she stopped. It appears that the Defendant was the only one injured in the single car accident. The Defendant was arrested and charged with eluding in the second degree and driving under the influence, along with nine other traffic violations. The officers believe that the Defendant was under the influence of heroin at the time of the incident. Heroin has created a major increase in crime throughout New Jersey over the last couple years.
As a result of the accident, the Defendant suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs. She has been released on a ROR status bail, however, she remains in the Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment.
