Elmwood Park NJ Police Arrest Defendant & Charge him with Possession of Heroin
According to the initial reports released by the Elmwood Park police department, they have arrested and charged a Teaneck resident with possession of heroin. It appears that one of the Elmwood Park police officer’s observed the Defendant acting suspicious while he was sitting in his parked car. Based on his observations, the officer approached the Defendant’s car. It is unclear what happened next, whether the officer observed in plain view the heroin or whether the Defendant consented to a search of his vehicle, but the Defendant was discovered to be in possession of fifty-eight (58) bags of heroin and syringes as well. The Defendant has formally been charged with the possession of heroin, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10(a)1 and possession of drug paraphernalia, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-6. If convicted of both charges, the Defendant could be sentenced up to 5 1/2 years in State prison.
