Kidnapping, Burglary & Robbery Charges issued out of Paramus New Jersey
The Hackensack police department arrested four individuals whom they believe were involved in a Paramus New Jersey home-invasion. (for more info on the Borough of Paramus please click here) According to the victim, who is a sixty-seven year old man, he was upstairs in his Paramus home when the four defendants kicked in his back door after he didn’t answer their original knock. When the defendants realized that the victim was home, they quickly tied him up up with a telephone cord. Once the victim was subdued, the defendants then ransacked the house looking for valuables. Once the defendants fled the scene the victim was able to free himself and call the police.
Unfortunately for the defendants, several Hackensack police officers were working on an unrelated hit and run incident which occurred on Route 4. Therefore, they were able to respond immediately and locate the vehicle which the defendants allegedly fled the scene in. Once the vehicle pulled over, two of the suspects took off on foot, however, they did not make it very far. All four suspects were quickly apprehended. All the defendants, who are Houston Texas residents, have been charged with kidnapping, robbery and burglary. All four remain in the Bergen County Jail on a $550,000 bail. The kidnapping charge is a first degree felony in New Jersey and if convicted the defendants could be sentenced up to 20 years in state prison. Unless the defendants used a weapon or threatened to use a weapon, the robbery charge will be a crime of the second degree and if convicted of this charge, they could be sentenced up to ten years in state prison. The burglary charge will most likely be a crime of the third degree unless a weapon was used as well and a crime of the third degree in New Jersey is punishable by up to five years in state prison.
