Weapons Charges issued for North Carolina man in Bergen County NJ

A road rage incident early Saturday morning leads to a 55-year-old North Carolina man being charged with various weapons charges and terroristic threat in Bergen County New Jersey. According to the reports, during an alleged road rage incident, a North Carolina resident, not only pointed a weapon at the couple but also threatened to kill them as well.

The initial reports indicate that the victims were backing out of a driveway in Hackensack New Jersey when they nearly collided with the defendant. The victim and the defendant apparently quickly exchanged words over the incident and it was at this point that the defendant exited his vehicle and brandished a handgun. He then allegedly went back into his vehicle and grabbed a rifle, at which point he pointed it at the victims and threatened that he was going to kill them. The victims fled the scene and notified the Hackensack Police Department of the altercation.

The defendant was then located a little while later and a subsequent search of his vehicle revealed the alleged handgun and riffle. In addition, the officers found eight high-capacity magazines inside the vehicle. Although the weapons were properly registered by the defendant in North Carolina, it is still unlawful for the defendant to possess them in New Jersey, let alone point them at another individual. Therefore, the defendant has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of terroristic threats, one count of aggravated assault and eight counts of possession of high capacity magazines. The defendant was transported to the Bergen County Jail where he remains on a $500,000 bail.
