Attempted Murder Charges Issued for Local Hackensack Resident

The Hackensack police department has announced that they have arrested a local resident and charged him with attempted murder. The defendant, a 64-year-old long time resident of Hackensack New Jersey, is alleged to have beaten his wife to the point that she remains in critical condition at the Hackensack University Medical Center. The victim is allegedly suffering from severe head trauma as a result of this incident.

The initial reports indicate that the Hackensack police officers were sent to the couples residence after receiving an anonymous call asking them to check on the homeowners. It is alleged that the defendant attempted to convince the officers that there was no problems and that he was unaware of why anyone would call. It wasn’t until the officers demanded that they speak with his wife that they discovered the unfortunate situation.

The defendant is currently sitting in the Bergen County Jail on attempted murder charges with a bail which has been set at $2 million dollars. In addition to the attempted murder charges, the defendant will almost certainly be charged with aggravated assault in the second degree. Both of these charges are also subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA) which if convicted, would require the defendant to serve at least 85% of his sentence before he could become eligible for parole.
