Aggravated sexual assaults, also known as rapes, have been plaguing our society forever. We hear news reports all the time about these types of crimes happening in India, and in other parts the world, but we never think it can happen in our backyard. Unfortunately, even here in Bergen County we are forced to deal with sexual predators that would prey on innocent victims too.
A Bergen County man will be spending 17 years in a New Jersey State Prison for aggravated sexual assaulting multiple women including several prostitutes. It is important to note here, that under the New Jersey Criminal Code of Justice sexual assault is the phrase we use for rape. 32-year-old Male was arrested by police back in September of 2010 for allegedly sexually assault several women. The rapes took place in South Hackensack New Jersey. The Local Police Department and other detectives assigned to the case were able to use DNA evidence obtained, to link the Defendant to two other rapes that took place back in 2007. One of these attacks took place at Paterson New Jersey, and the other in South Hackensack New Jersey.
Aggravated sexual assault can be a crime of the first or second degree. If convicted of first degree aggravated sexual assault, a defendant will face up to twenty years in a New Jersey State Prison and subject to the No Early Release Act, the defendant must serve at least 85% of their sentence before they can become eligible for parole. In addition, the defendant will be required to register under Megan Laws for the rest of his life.
