Charged with lying on his job application, an ex-police officer is now trying to see if he can have the venue for his court case changed. A Defendant will seek to have a change of venue if they feel like it is impossible for them to get a fair trial in their current venue. The Defendant is facing these charges, in part because he feels that the basis for the undisclosed accusations in question, was the result of illegal wiretaps, which dated back to 2004.
The Defendant’s current arrest came in June of 2012, when he was charged with falsifying information on his application to the Waldwick Police Department. According to his attorney, the defendant has been the source of a personal grudge by the city prosecutor, for more than eight years.
This all stems from an incident that took place back in 2004. The Defendant was discovered through wiretaps, speaking to a family member, who happens to be well known participant in the criminal underworld. In the said recordings, the Defendant apparently, in a joking manner, offered to provide protections to his cousin from individuals that might seek to hurt him. The family member was a part of a group of men arrested in connection with what was called the “Operation Jersey Boys”. This was a series of raids, that cracks down on the gambling operations of the Lucchese crime family. As a result of the wiretap, the Defendant was encouraged to retire from the Police Department.
