Hackensack Murder Lawyers
If you or a loved one is facing a homicide (murder) charge, then this is a very serious charge with very grave consequences. Murder is codified under the statute as N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3. A first-degree murder charge carries a mandatory minimum of thirty years in New Jersey state prison. The maximum penalty for a first-degree murder charge is life imprisonment. Unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit is a second degree crime. This is also governed by the Graves Act, and requires, at a minimum, five years in New Jersey state prison with a two and half year period of parole ineligibility. This means that if the defendant is convicted of the second degree handgun charge, then the defendant will have to serve at least two and half years of their prison sentence before they become eligible for parole.
