Eluding Charges Issued on the Palisades Interstate Parkway
Two Defendants from Hudson County, New Jersey took the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department on a chase through Bergen County into New York late last week. According to the information released thus far, it appears that the officers, who were undercover at the time, first noticed the two Defendants as they crossed the double yellow lines passing other vehicles. When the Defendants approached a stop sign, the unmarked officers attempted to pull over the Defendants. However, according to the officers, this is when the Defendants took off and fled the scene. It wasn’t until the Defendants entered into Orangetown, New York and the speeds reached what officers claim as unsafe conditions, that the Defendants decided to stop. Once both Defendants stopped they were quickly taken into custody.
They were both arrested and formally charged with eluding in the second degree and obstruction of justice. They were taken to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $27,000. Both motorcycles were impounded as well. Since the Defendants have been charged with eluding the second degree, if they are convicted, they would be facing up to ten (10) years in a State prison, a fine up too $150,000 and a drivers license loss.
