Serial Burglar Allegedly in Custody in Bergen County

Michael MartinezAbout eight Bergen County towns teamed up to create a task force in efforts to catch a serial burglar who is alleged to have been committing random burglaries throughout the County over the last few months. The case was cracked late last week when officers arrested a forty-four year ex-con from Carlstadt. The Defendant was arrested outside his Carlstadt home last Thursday. During the arrest it was determined that the Defendant was in possession of several items that have been reported missing from a recent burglary in Rochelle Park as well as a hyperemic needle. The Defendant was charged with the following crimes in the following towns:

  • The Rochelle Park police charged the Defendant with possession of a hypodermic needle, theft, criminal mischief and burglary;
  • The Hasbrouck Heights police charged the Defendant with burglary;
  • The Teaneck police charged the Defendant with burglary;

The Defendant may also be facing charges from Saddle River, River Edge, Hillsdale, River Vale, Wood-Ridge and Carlstadt as well. The Defendant was brought to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $50,000. The Defendant has prior arrest involving burglary, and aggravated assault on a police officer. Provided the Defendant did not use a weapon, he will be charged with third degree felonies. If convicted, each third degree felony is punishable by up too five (5) years in a New Jersey State Prison and a fine not to exceed $15,000.
