Bergen County resident charged with selling Prescription Drugs
Law enforcement is constantly on the lookout for individuals who are involved in the distribution of illegal drugs. These could be illegal street drugs, or as is shown in the following case, illegal prescription drugs. In Paramus, New Jersey a man was arrested after he sold prescription drugs to a undercover police officer multiple times. The Defendant was captured after law-enforcement agents did an investigation that took approximately two months. This investigation was done by the narcotic task force from Bergen County area and the Paramus police force was involved.
The Defendant is a 50-year-old male. He allegedly sold prescription drugs to a undercover police officer on November 20th. According to police reports, the Defendant sold three pills for $60 to an undercover police agent. Police believe that these three pills were Roxicodone, more commonly referred to as “roxy”. According to Bergen County prosecutor John L. Molinelli, the Defendant had also sold prescription drugs to undercover agents two more times during this investigation.
Based on these transactions, the police were able to obtain a warrant to search the Defendant’s home on Wednesday January 30, 2013. It was during the search that the Defendant was actually arrested. The search of Defendant’s home turned up prescription pills including Roxicodone and also heroin.
As a result of the search, the Defendant was charged with the distribution of Roxicodone and also the possession of heroin. He was sent to the Bergen County Jail and bail was set at $35,000.
Distributing a prescription drug is a very serious offense in New Jersey and if convicted, depending on the facts, the defendant can be sentenced up to twenty years in a New Jersey State Prison. In addition, the defendant could potentially be sentenced to up to five years in a New Jersey State Prison for the third degree possession of heroin charge.
