Another large scale heroin bust for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office occurred Friday morning. According to the information released at this point in time, 21 kilograms of heroin, a heroin push press, packaging materials and a money counter was confiscated following the execution of two search warrants. It appears that a tip back in September about an individual possessing a large quantity of fentanyl is what kicked off this investigation. The investigation lead authorities too two separate individuals whom they believed were operating a large scale heroin distribution ring out both Bergen and Hudson County. One of the individual’s arrested was a forty-six (46) year old male from Palisades Park and the other was a forty-seven (47) year old male from Bayonne.
Both Defendants were arrested and charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute. Due to the quantity of heroin seized the Defendant’s were both charged with first degree heroin charges. If convicted of a first degree felony heroin distribution charge in New Jersey a Defendant faces up to twenty (20) years in a New Jersey State Prison and a fine up too $250,000. Both Defendants were taken to the Bergen County jail and bail was set at $250,000 with no 10% option. They are both scheduled to make their initial appearance in court on November 9, 2016.
This investigation was a product of multiple agencies including, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Bayonne Police Department, the West New York Police Department and Palisades Park Police Department. As you can tell not just Bergen County but New Jersey as a whole has been putting a tremendous amount of resources into trying to get ahold of the heroin epidemic that is still sweeping through New Jersey.
