First Degree Robbery & Handgun Charges issued for two Bergen County Residents

According to the Fairview Police Department, two teenagers have been arrested and charged with armed robbery stemming from an incident that took place in Fairview New Jersey last week.  Initial reports indicated that the two defendant’s robbed a juvenile at gunpoint on September 10, 2013. The victim asserts that two males forced him down a dark alley at gunpoint and once at the end, demanded that he turn over all valuables. Once the defendants received the items that they were seeking they took off on foot.

The Fairview police Captain, Martin Kahn, stated that his department was able to use both the descriptions provided by the victim and surveillance footage from local stores to apprehend the two defendants. The reports further indicate that the defendants were later apprehend separately. One has been charged with armed robbery, theft and weapons offenses and the other is facing charges of armed robbery, theft, unlawful possession of a handgun and resisting arrest, where in which an officer was injured. The defendants are both being held at the Bergen County Jail and bail has been set at $100,000.

These are very serious charges in New Jersey. If the Defendants were to be convicted of armed robbery alone they would be facing up too twenty (20) years in a New Jersey State Prison. In addition, pursuant to the No Early Release Act, (“N.E.R.A.”) the defendants would be required to serve 85% of their sentence before they could become eligible for parole.
