A Leonia, NJ Home was Burglarized over the Weekend

A group cliffviewof individuals claiming to be PSE&G workers allegedly burglarized a home Leonia, New Jersey over the weekend. It is alleged that the defendants dressed up as PSE&G workers, approached the homeowner and claimed that they needed to add an additional utility pole in the back of his property. The unsuspecting homeowner was then instructed to accompany the workers to the backyard so they could discuss where the pole was going to be placed. It was during this time that the homeowner alleges that another individual entered his home and stole several several thousand dollars. According to the homeowner, one of the defendant’s remained on his cellphone the entire time, giving what seemed to be a play by play to what now appears to be the individual that was burglarizing the home.

The homeowner informed the Leonia police that “at no time did the suspect produce any form of PSE&G identification,” and apparently when the homeowner asked for a business card, “the suspect stated that he had one in his car, which was parked down the street”. The Leonia police are looking for any possible leads and are asking surrounding neighbors that if they have security cameras to please inform them as soon as possible. One of the alleged defendant’s is described as white male, 5-foot-9 tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

If the defendants are caught they will most likely be charged with burglary in the third degree and conspiracy to commit burglary (for the defendants who did not enter the home). If convicted of a third degree burglary in New Jersey a defendant could be sentenced up to five (5) years in a State prison and fined up to $15,000. Bergen County, New Jersey has been dealing with a sudden rash of burglaries and has been on heightened alert for the last six months.
