A concerned citizen’s tip leads to a Pearl River mans arrest in Norwood, New Jersey last week. The tip in essence stated that they noticed the Defendant allegedly laying on the ground next to his vehicle in what appeared to be an incapacitated state. However, before the Norwood Police could arrive on scene the Defendant had fled the scene in his vehicle. The Defendant’s vehicle was quickly spotted on Summit Street and a motor vehicle stop was conducted. When the officers approached the Defendant’s vehicle they detected the odor of alcohol emanating from the inside of the vehicle. Based on their observations and the concerned citizen’s tip, the Defendant was asked to step outside the vehicle to conduct some Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The Defendant allegedly failed those tests and as a result he was taken to the Norwood Police Department to submit to a breath test.

Once at the station the Defendant refused to provide a breath sample. He was formally charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test and careless driving. If this was the Defendant’s first DWI arrest he will be facing a seven to twelve month loss of a license on the refusal charge and a three month loss of license on the DWI since their is no valid reading.
