DWI Reported in Ridgewood New Jersey

Law-enforcement in Bergen County is constantly battling the individuals who are driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and against individuals who are driving while transporting illegal drugs, or drug paraphernalia. Evidence of this can be seen by what took place on December 6, 2012.

Around 11 PM patrolmen Stephen Cummings, noticed that there was a vehicle that was driving eastward on Ridgewood Avenue. This vehicle was driving without its headlights. So responding to this, patrolmen Stevens Cummings made a routine motor vehicle stop. It was during this stop, that officer Cummings realized that the driver of the vehicle, a resident of Ridgewood New Jersey, was driving while being under the influence of alcohol. As a result of this, the defendant was arrested and taken to the Ridgewood Police headquarters. The defendant was later released, and is now awaiting an appearance in the Ridgewood Municipal Court for driving while intoxicated.

While she was in police custody, law enforcement officials found that the defendant had both drug paraphernalia, and marijuana on her. As a result, the defendant is now facing charges for having a controlled substance (marijuana), having a controlled substance inside of a vehicle, and also having drug paraphernalia. In addition to this she is facing charges for reckless driving, and driving without headlights on.

The Possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia are disorderly persons offense (misdemeanor) in New Jersey and the defendant is facing up to six months in jail, up to a $1000 fine and up to a six month loss of their drivers license on each charge.  The defendant is also facing up to a two (2) year loss of their drivers license for the possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Not to mention that the defendant, if this is their first offense, is facing up to a twelve month loss of their drivers license on the driving while intoxicated offense. Therefore, if the defendant is convicted of all charges and sentenced consecutively, the defendant may face up to a four year loss of their driving privileges.
