Old Tappan NJ Resident Charged with Eluding & DWI in Bergen County

An Old Tappan New Jersey resident has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, driving while intoxicated, eluding, driving while suspended, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving in Fair Lawn. The women, who was allegedly drunk at the time, struck a Fair Lawn New Jersey Police Officer with her vehicle prior to attempting to flee the scene.

According to the initial reports, the police received an anonymous tip that a 2011 Nissan Rogue had been involved in a hit-and-run accident and when the officers left headquarters they discovered the alleged vehicle sitting in front of the their police station. It appears that upon seeing the officers, the Old Tappan resident attempted to flee the scene, almost striking the officer. To make matters worse, the officers allege that the driver, after having her vehicle surrounded, she still refused to exit her vehicle. After forcible removing the defendant from the vehicle, the officers uncovered several beer cans and a vodka bottle as well.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office will most likely be indicting the defendant on not only a second degree eluding charge but also a third degree aggravated assault on a police officer. To make matters worse the defendant could also be charged with assault by auto as well.
