Bergen County NJ Resident Charged with Eluding in Englewood
A brief police chase in Englewood, New Jersey ends after the driver, a teenager from Bergen County, crashed the Dodge Ram that he was driving into a curb. According to the reports, Englewood Cliffs officers attempted to pull over the defendant for a simple traffic infraction, when he decided to take off. Officers latter determined that the vehicle which the defendant was operating was reported stolen out of Englewood on Tuesday. Officer’s believe that there were two other passengers inside the vehicle besides the driver, however, one of them was able to flee on foot and elude capture. The other passenger, a juvenile, remanded at the scene was taken into custody as well. It is unknown at this time, whether or not she was aware that the car was stolen.
The driver has been charged with eluding, child endangerment, receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana (please see our marijuana drug page for more info). He is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $50,000 bail. The seventeen year old female has been charged with receiving stolen property as well and was most likely released into the custody of her parents.
The defendant will most likely be charged with eluding in the second degree and receiving stolen property in the third degree, provided the value of the Dodge Ram is under $75,000. A defendant convicted of a second degree felony in New Jersey, is facing up to 10 year in state prison and fined up to $150,000.
