A 52-year-old doctor in Bergen County was just arrested and charged with drug possession. The doctor is accused of going to local pharmacies and filling prescriptions that were designated for her patients but she would only give a portion of the medicine to her patients while retaining the rest for her personal use. It was only after a five-month investigation that the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office, with the assistance of the Narcotic Task Force, and local law enforcement were able to make this arrest.

The doctor is a surgeon, who specializes in breast cancer related conditions. Currently she works with her own private practice connected to surgical oncology and other diseases related to the breast. Using her position as a doctor, the defendant would present prescriptions at the Gallo’s Pharmacy then she would turn over only a portion of this medicine to the people who the prescriptions were prescribed for. The investigation into the extent of her crimes is still ongoing.

The charges against her include possession of schedule II controlled dangerous substances with the intention to distribute them. Included in the drugs that she had in her possession were Hydrocodone, Amphetamine Salts, and Methylphenidate. Following her arrest, the defendant was placed in the Bergen County jail with bail set at $50,000. Depending on the amount possessed at the time of her arrest, the defendant may be indicted with a possession of CDS with the intent to distribute charge, a crime of the second degree. If convicted of this offense, the defendant will be facing up to ten years in a New Jersey State Prison.
