Armed Robbery gone wrong in Englewood NJ

The City of EnglewoodPolice Department is looking for a male who attempted to rob a local gas station early Monday morning. According to the gas station attended on duty at the time, a unknown assailant approached him and asked him for help unlocking the bathroom door. Unbeknownst to the attended, the defendant was armed with a baseball bat. When the attended went to help the suspect open the bathroom door is when he was attacked by the suspect with the baseball bat. Fortunately for the victim, he was able to defend himself and actually wrestle the bat away from the suspect. According to the victim, once he was able to gain control of the bat, he was able to chase the defendant off. The defendant then reentered his vehicle and fled scene.

The police are still investigating the incident at this time but they believe that the defendant was unsuccessful in his robbery attempt. According to the Englewood Police they believe that they have some very significant leads in this case, including some physical evidence left behind at the scene. One key piece of evidence that the police are looking into is believed to be a surveillance video from the gas station, which may or may not allow them to make a positive identification on the vehicle used in the commission of the offense.

The defendant will most likely be charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. These are all very serious charges in New Jersey and if the suspect is finally caught and convicted of said charges, he could be looking at decades behind bars.
